The expressions and facial features on your sugarpaste models can be as simple or as complex as you wish. To begin with, here are some very simple faces that require very few tools. You’ll be amazed at how just a few lines and curves can create a myriad of expressions.
A drinking straw is a useful tool for creating cheeks and eyebrows (it’s also good for creating scales should you ever need to make an icing mermaid or fish!)
Press the edge of a piping nozzle into the sugarpaste. Pull it downwards a little to create a slightly open, smiling mouth.
Now you can leave the mouth as it is if you want but if you want to add teeth, stick a tiny, white curved strip of sugarpaste inside the mouth.
Poke the edge of a drinking straw either side of the mouth to create the cheeks
Stick two tiny flesh coloured ball shapes either side of the head for the ears. Poke the end of a paintbrush into each ear. To finish, add a tiny sugarpaste ball for the nose, add eyes and hair and use the drinking straw again to create eyebrows.
